Dr. Jeff Alwen
Advanced surgeon Dr. Jeff Alwen came to the San Luis Obispo area with his wife Rosanne and two sons late in 2002. After falling in love with the area they purchased the Broad Street clinic in January 1, 2003 and Edna Valley Veterinary, which later merged and became Edna Valley Veterinary Clinic and Surgical Services.
With 25 years experience, Dr. Alwen offers advanced surgeries such as orthopedics, TPLO (Tibial plateau leveling osteotomy), Arthroscopy, MRI, neurology and oncology, in addition to quality general health care.
Dr. Davielle Smalley
Davielle Smalley, DVM graduated from Kansas State College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012. Originally from San Diego she made her way to the central coast with her husband, as the perfect compromise between rural Kansas and urban California. She has a special interest in veterinary dermatology, and she really enjoys her time at our Mobile Veterinary Clinic, Community Veterinary Outreach. In her free time she enjoys crochet and other needle crafts, as well as spending time with her husband and rescue chihuahua, Georgie.
Dr. Chea Hall
I am a 2002 North Carolina State University veterinary graduate. In addition to working as a relief practitioner at Edna Valley Veterinary Hospital, I also work for an online veterinary community, VIN, as their Veterinary Student Mentor and own an online health, fitness and wellness company with my husband! I worked in small animal emergency and general practice in Oregon for 13 years before relocating to sunny California a little over 3 years ago with my family.
My husband is an equine veterinarian for Zoetis and we have 2 elementary aged boys, a cat, a golden retriever puppy, a guinea pig and several backyard chickens! I feel fortunate to have found a place with Edna Valley Veterinary hospital and look forward to meeting you!
Dona - Office Manager
Dona has been the Office Manager at our clinic for 11 years. Her shining personality makes clients feel like family. She simply adores getting to know people and their furry friends. She spends her free time outdoors, camping, hiking and fishing.
Nico - Manager and Veterinary Assistant
Nico has been with us for 2 years now. She came to us with a good deal of experience in veterinary medicine. We are so glad to have her as a part of our team. Her comical personality keeps us smiling all day. In her free time she enjoys sailing, hanging out with her dog Dale, her new kitten Gus Gus and riding her horse, Theodore Roosevelt.
Kendra - Veterinary Assistant and Receptionist
Kendra joined our team in September 2015. She has a passion for helping animals of all shapes and sizes. Kendra has previous experience working with birds, reptiles and small exotic mammals. She looks forward to learning all she can about dog and cat medicine. In her free time she likes to go hiking with her 2 dogs and enjoys kayaking in Morro Bay.
Roxanne - Kennel and Technician Assistant
Roxy joined our team in September, and came to us with previous experience in small animal medicine. She graduated from Cal Poly in June of 2015 with her degree in Animal Science as well as an Equine Science minor. She plans to apply to vet school this year and hopes to be attending in the fall of 2017. Her younger years were spent learning random facts about all animals from books and Animal Planet TV, as well as owning many animals including dogs, cats, horses, reptiles, birds and rodents. Roxy currently spends her free time training for triathlons, lifeguarding in Avila Beach, riding horses, and hanging with her new rescue dog Vixey.
Allison is originally from Petaluma, Ca, where she worked, both in the office and as a veterinary technician in a large animal practice. She is currently in her last year at Cal Poly and will be receiving her Bachelors of Science degree in Animal Science June 2017. She loves all animals, big AND small! When she is not taking care of the lovely animals at EVVC,she loves to ride horses, hike the awesome trails in SLO and enjoy the coastal beaches. On most Saturdays you can find Allison at our Mobile clinic assisting our Doctors!
Kat is originally from LA and moved to San Luis Obispo in 2013 to attend Cal Poly. She obtained her bachelors degree in Animal Science in 2016. This fall she'll be attending Cal Poly to pursue her masters degree animal physiology specializing in lizards and snakes.
Kat spends her spare time surfing, hiking, camping, playing bunko, live action role playing, scenic photography and going "herping'. Kat spends her time at home with three snakes,four cats and two dogs.
We are very lucky to have her at our clinic with her professional and sunny attitude!
